How to watch the Kamala Harris and Donald Trump ABC News Presidential Debate LIVE on SBS
In just a few days, the first presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump will take place.
It is the second official presidential debate of this year’s U.S. election cycle, the first being between President Joe Biden and Trump.
ABC News, who will be hosting the debate, announced it will be taking place on Wednesday 11 September (AEST time) at the National Consitutional Center in Philadelphia. It is scheduled to run for approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes, followed by a 20-minute post-debate analysis.
It is set to begin at 11am (AEST time) and will operate under the exact same rules as the first presidential debate. Both Trump and Harris have formally agreed to these rules.

What are the rules of the ABC News Presidential Debate?
Just like last time, the rules for the second presidential debate state that each candidates microphone is turned on only when it is their turn to speak.
Alongside this, candidates are not allowed to speak to their team at any point during the course of the debate, and may not be handed notes of any kind. They are given a pen and paper and a bottle of water, and that’s it.
The debate will be moderated by ABC News Live Prime anchor Linsey Davis and World News Tonight anchor David Muir.
What are the qualification requirements for the second ABC News Presidential Debate?
Per ABC News, the candidate qualification requirements are as follows:
- Candidates must meet the qualification requirements outlined in , which states that they must be a citizen of the United States, must have been a resident within the United States for at least 14 years and must be at least 35 years old.
- Candidates must accept the rules of the debate as outlined by ABC News.
- In at least four separate national polls, candidates must have reached at least 15% support from registered or likely voters.
- Candidates must appear on a sufficient number of state ballots.
What happened in the first Presidential Debate?
The first presidential debate of the 2024 presidential election cycle took place on Thursday 27 June (AEST time) in Atlanta.
It was the first debate between a sitting and former president.
Approximately one month after the first debate, President Joe Biden dropped out of the race, endorsing his Vice President Kamala Harris and encouraging Democrats to rally behind her.
“Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year,” he wrote in a post to X.
“Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump.”
